Cooking Over Campfire

Boruca Immersive Cooking and Gastronomy Retreat - July 2023

Aimed at cooks and chefs who want to learn about Boruca indigenous gastronomy.

Workshops

Weaving and natural dyes: Participants are taught from the harvesting and ginning of cotton, as well as making the thread, warping, and weaving, to the dyeing of a personal piece for the latter part requires that the stay is at least 2 nights, since you must dye and dry the garment.

Elaboration of traditional masks: Participants have two options, observation of the different stages, selection of the material, drawing, digging, painting, and finishing of the piece and brief participation in some of the stages and the workshop itself in which the balsa wood is provided, and the workshop participant elaborates his/her mask under the guidance of an artisan.

​

Traditional food workshop: the participants is taught to make one or two traditional dishes such as rice tamales, sapitos made of corn, coconut and candy, or some other dish with seasonal products. The workshop is preceded by a talk on Boruca cuisine and food as a fundamental axis of health.

Indigenous ceremonies and rituals

Ancestral spirituality, beyond religions. 

Request for permission, it is done at the entrance to the farm following indigenous traditions and the meaning of it is explained.

Cleaning of the aura is done in the pre-Columbian cemetery.

Gratefulness to mother earth is done when harvesting the products in the mountain or in the chagüite.

Contribution of indigenous peoples to Costa Rican gastronomy, based on the research and book Saberes y Sabores de Boruca, carried out by the undersigned and which won a worldwide award.

Hiking and trekking

Enjoying the View

The topography and the extension of the farm offer a variety of options for walking the trails, which range from a few meters on flat terrain to trails of a few kilometers where you can observe the local flora and fauna, water sources and reach the petroglyph and scenarios such as the profile of the Talamanca Mountain range in the Atlantic and the Golfo Dulce in the Pacific.

The farm also offers to participate in the planting and harvesting of food and medicinal products.
